There are generally four steps to do the keyword research for any kind of niche. I use one site which is promoting a legit online business opportunity as an example. Because we know that market is saturated and hard to compete with aged sites. My way of keyword research will make new site being indexed quicker.
Step 1, See in Google’s eyes
We know that it’s all about doing online business and making money. So let’s do some keyword research in Google. You’ll find there are 192 million results about keyword phrase “make money online”, there are 185 million results on “how to make money”.
Google search results means how many pages are being indexed by Google for that keyword phrase. Do you think you can beat 192 million pages and rank on the top page of Google by using these keywords? Yes, it will happen. But it will probably take you about 2-3 years to be ranked on the top page if you want to target these HOT keywords. And it definitely won’t happen overnight.
Of course, you can use Google AdWords (run PPC ads campaigns) to promote your online business using these keywords. Chances are you will have to compete with around 13,000 internet marketers on one of these keywords. Hopefully you will get a few clicks a day if you can bid for more money (you may expect $3-$5 per click). So my question is: Why do you have to bid for these HOT keywords? Why don’t you choose the right keywords which will also bring you leads while there are much less competitors?
Step 2, use Google keyword tool
Let Google keyword tool tells you all related keyword terms and their search volume. You should pick those relatively high search volume keyword terms.
You will find the average monthly search volume for different terms. Some of them are high i.e. 14,700 for “earn easy money”; some of them are low i.e. 320 for “earn fast easy money”. However, it does not mean that those terms with low search volume are “bad” terms. Because you see the “Advertiser Competition” bar (the little green bar) for “earn fast easy money” is medium to high, it means that there are quite a few marketers are bidding for that term. It could most possibly mean to you that it is a buying keyword, which means people who search for that term are actually buying stuffs.
Step 3, double check in Google search
When you go back to Google search and type in “earn fast easy money”, you find it gives you 31 million results (much less than what’s for “make money online”, but still a lot.). But when you search the exact keyword phrase (you type in the term with the quotes), it give you…em, only 1380 results. Isn’t that nice?
At the same time, you will find around 10 PPC Ads on the right hand side of your search result page. What does that tell you? Simple and clear, exact phrase of “earn fast easy money” is a buying keyword. Do you have a lot more confidence in your next marketing campaign using the term “earn fast easy money” to beat only 1380 pages? Of course!
Step 4, modify the keyword phrases
Since you have decided on one main keyword phrase through the above three steps, you have to stick with that term and use it in whatever campaign you run. But you should avoid using exactly the same term everywhere. To modify the keyword phrase a little bit is a great idea.
A great way to modify your main keyword phrase is to use Google keyword tool. In step 2, Google keyword tool shows you list of related keyword terms, which give you many ideas of how to modify your main keyword phrase.
For example, your modified keywords could be “how to earn easy money online”, “earn fast easy money”, “earn easy money on the internet”, etc. Remember, you should always use your modified keyword phrases as anchor texts for the best SEO purposes.

I like to call it “the greed gene.” Many of us have it. Or is that, everybody has it? Well, that probably can’t be true. There must be some guy living in a tent in the middle of nowhere who couldn’t care less about money. But, it sure isn’t me. As we watch our American economy coming unglued, and nearly every wheel coming off the American Prosperity Wagon, it’s nearly impossible not to be obsessed by money. The American Dream is instilled in us all at a very early age. And, while we may not have liked receiving money as a gift in our earliest years, that soon changed. You get that first paycheck and you’re hooked. Whatever you’ve got, you always want more. Why it’s a patriotic mantra, and even our birthright, isn’t it?
As the obsession of Wall Street hucksters like Bernie Madoff, Sir Alan Cranston, Kenny-Boy Lay, and all those top corporate CEO’s who continue to prosper at our expense flourishes, we are left in an angry state of confusion. All the wrong people were bailed out. The very banks whose demonic predatory subprime loans turned into greedy, obnoxious, and extraordinarily toxic derivative investments are prospering like never before. And, as that happens, this greedy culture of robber barons has the gall to restrict lending, thus thwarting any meaningful recovery. The jobs they caused to be lost forever, the national and global economies they brought to their knees aren’t holding them back. Their “too big to fail” safety net keeps them firmly entrenched in their same-old-same-old mode of operation: rip off the masses for the prolonged obscene profits of the few self-entitled elite.
The rich keep getting richer, the poor keep getting poorer, and the middle class evaporates into thin air. All of this makes me more obsessed with making money than ever before. I want my share for a change, damnit! Don’t you? Why is it that everyday Americans are never too big to fail? That bailout money that’s been flushed down the drain straight into the corporate coffers, thanks to the cancerous workings of our own government and their bastard lobbyist children, will never “trickle down” to we lowly peons. That philosophy always sounded good to Reaganites and their neocon offspring, but it never has and never will work.
All of the things that this Country and our world need, from true health care reform, to real Global Warming solutions and fossil fuel alternatives will likely never see the light of day in our lifetimes, or quite possibly, ever. No matter. There’s still good money to be made the good old-fashioned way: steal it from the American People.
As I come to the end of my rant, let it be said that I am still an eternal optimist, though an extremely skeptical and cynical one. Maybe things will change when the oceans start swallowing big cities and gas hits $10 dollars a gallon. There’s still plenty of room for the entrepreneur in all of us. Maybe the power of Internet will be the answer and the solution for the change we’ve all been craving. And, then again, maybe marijuana will be legalized and most of us will quit caring about these things anymore.
How bad will things have to get before they truly get better for you and me? I have no answer to that one. But, I promise to remain patriotically and unabashedly obsessed with making money till the end of my days. And for that, I am one proud American.
